Christmas is just around the corner and we’ve been busy compiling the perfect Christmas gift guide for climbers. It can be tricky to know what to get a climber for Christmas, particularly if you’re new to climbing yourself.
We’re on hand to help you find the perfect gift for the climbers in your life, whether they’re just starting out or wanting to improve their technique to reach their New Year climbing goals.
Climbing Shoes
Bid farewell to rental shoes forever by treating the climber in your life to a brand new pair of their own! Purchasing a pair climbing shoes, or receiving them as a gift, is a special occasion for any climber. Even more so if they’re your first pair!
There are so many brands and styles to choose from – it can be a bit overwhelming if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. If you’re purchasing a pair of climbing shoes for yourself or a friend this Christmas, we highly recommend getting a professional fitting, to ensure they’re just right. If you don’t want to spoil the surprise, why not purchase one of our gift cards instead? They can be used in all areas of The Tide Climbing Centre, including for climbing shoe purchases!
Chalk Bag
Chalk bags are useful tools for all disciplines of climbing. They neatly clip onto harnesses, or around your body when bouldering, to ensure you chalk is always on hand, no matter how high you climb. They often feature zips, pockets and other attachments too, which are perfect for storing climbing brushes, tape, keys and jewellery while you climb.
You could even treat your climber to their very own chalk to use too. Climbing chalk comes in all shapes and sizes, from blocks, to bags of powder. Chalk balls are designed to reduce dust and bottles of liquid chalk are also widely available. Climbers are able to use whichever variety of chalk they prefer at The Tide Climbing Centre and we even offer a bottle refill service for those who use liquid chalk.
Classes and Coaching Sessions
Looking to take your climbing technique to the next level? We highly recommend investing in some coaching! Having an experienced Instructor on hand to teach you new skills will help you master new techniques as well as improve your confidence and self-belief when tackling new routes and harder grades. These sessions are also perfect for people who have always wanted to give climbing a go but don’t quite know where to start.
Whether it’s a block of one-to-one sessions or specific rope climbing or bouldering inductions, there are sessions for all ages and climbing abilities. There are so many other activities and fitness classes that benefit climbers’ performance too, such as yoga, pilates and even ballet! Gifting a session like this will not only help the recipient progress within the climbing. If you take part in the session together it will provide you both new experiences and fond memories for you to enjoy.
The Tide Climbing Centre Gift Card
If you’re a little overwhelmed and not completely sure what to get your climbing friend, you can always purchase them a gift card instead. The Tide Climbing Centre Gift Cards can be redeemed throughout the centre.
Our gift cards can be used in our in-centre Shop, as well as towards centre memberships, classes and coaching sessions. They’re a great present for climbers of all abilities, enabling them to invest in their passion as they see fit.
Climbing Centre Membership
Gifting them a centre membership is a great way to support a budding climber’s new hobby. Did you know, if you or someone you know climbs at least once a week at The Tide Climbing Centre, then it’s actually more cost effective to become a member than to pay for a pass each time you visit?! There are so many additional benefits to our memberships too, including guest passes each month, priority booking and 10% off all apparel, climbing shoe purchases, refreshments and coaching sessions. You also receive a free pizza on your birthday – what’s not to love?!
If a full blown membership seems like too big a step, why not gift your climber a set of prepaid day passes instead? They work out cheaper than purchasing each pass individually and provide the recipient an insight into what it would be like to start climbing with us more regularly.
Bouldering Mat
Know someone that’s eager to transition from indoor to outdoor climbing in the new year? Sounds like they’ll need a bouldering mat!
Often you’ll find outdoor climbing locations are riddled with uneven surfaces, exposed roots and small rocks underfoot. These hazards have the potential to cause injuries to climbers, particularly if you fall off your route!
Bouldering mats are made out of dense foam and are designed to be lightweight, effective safety equipment for outdoor climbing. They can be carried easily on your back using the shoulder straps and fold down for efficient storage at home. They’re an important tool for all climbers and help prevent injuries when climbing outdoors.
Climbing Guidebooks
Climbing guidebooks provide insights to help you plan your next adventure. Often they depict a breakdown of routes available, their difficulties and the typical weather and terrain conditions you can expect when visiting. They often include photographs or illustrations of routes, as well as nearby amenities including parking and peak periods throughout the year.
There are so many incredible locations to climb here in the south west. We highly recommend the Rockfax West Country Climbs for trad climbing across the southwest, as well as The Climber’s Club South West Climbs Volume II: Devon, Cornwall and The Granite Isles. If there’s a specific area your climber is keen to explore, The Climber’s Club also offer a range of local guides including, South Devon, Dartmoor, West Cornwall (Bosigran and the north coast)
What are you getting the climbers in your life for Christmas? Is there anything you’re hoping to receive as a gift yourself this year?
