What Skills Will Your Child Will Develop Through Climbing?

Our Waves Climbing Club helps children aged 7+ improve their climbing skills and progress within the sport. Our coaches follow the 6 week NIBAS (National Indoor Bouldering Award Scheme) curriculum to promote good practice and help your child develop their motor and problem solving skills on the wall.  As well as learning how to climb safely, there are a number of key skills your child will develop through climbing with us. These include:

Improving Motor Skills

Climbing works a wide range of physical skills including balance, coordination and agility. In addition, climbing will also improve your child’s spatial awareness and fine motor skills such as dexterity, particularly when handling different shaped and sized holds in a boulder problem.

Learning Problem Solving and Risk

Learning to navigate and manage risks is an important part of your child’s development and is a skill that needs regular practise. Providing your child with a safe environment, like Waves Kids Climbing Club, will ensure they have the opportunity to hone these important life skills regularly while being under the supervision and guidance of our experienced Instructors.

Building Confidence and Independence

Hobbies such as climbing form an integral part of an individual’s identity. As your child progresses through the NIBAS syllabus they will develop their technique and be able to track their progress through trickier routes. This sense of accomplishment will boost their self-esteem and confidence both on and off the wall. They’ll also learn about the history of climbing as a sport and the ethics and culture behind the sport. This will help your child feel part of the wider climbing community

Developing Social Skills

Taking part in extra-curricular activities, such as Waves Kids Climbing Club will extend your child’s circle of friends outside of school. It also provides them the opportunity to meet other people who share similar interests. Socialising regularly with new people will teach your child how to communicate confidently with both adults and other children, as well as how to lead and work together as part of a team.
