What is it, how do you use it and how can it help you?
We are really excited to now have the Griptonite app installed in our centre! Griptonite is a fantastic way for you to record your climbs, track your progress and meet other climbers! If you’ve never heard of or seen Griptonite before
What is Griptonite?
Griptonite is a climb tracking solution that allows users to log all of their climbs – a bit like Strava would be for running or cycling. All you need is a smartphone and the griptonite app to get started. Optional leaderboards allow you to take on your friends whilst being able to claim first ascents around the centre, giving you that extra drive to try all of the climbs available.
How do I use it?
Our fantastic route setters tag all the climbs in the centre, whilst doing so they create individual profiles for each climb. This includes the grade, the style of climbing and the terrain plus more! All you need to do is scan one of the tags either using NFC (like a contactless card payment) or the QR code and the information will then be displayed on your phone. You can then submit attempts, leave feedback for the setters and even upload videos of you sending!
What are the Benefits of using Griptonite?
As you track your climbs the app will then start to build a picture of where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Conquering some of these may be the last push that you need to boost your climbing to another level. Leaderboards and beta videos also help the community, giving the Tide one of the best climbing and social atmospheres!
What’s changed?
In order to install Griptonite, we’ve had to update all of the tags around the centre. Gone are the days of small coloured washers which have now been replaced with fancy tags. Just like before, the colour of the tag indicates how hard the climb is and we have altered the grade boundaries to provide a more linear scale. The tags also indicate where to start the climb and the app has a built-in map to show you exactly where every tag is across the centre. It’s as easy as that!
